Center for Disease Control: The Obesity Epidemic

A short video about the obesity epidemic from the CDC and what measures we can take as Americans in order to protect ourselves from the common problems we face with obesity. The video illustrates many common factors that lead to obesity and what we can do to ensure that we are taking the right paths to living a healthier lifestyle.
I really like this video as it illustrates many of the key problems we face in todays society in regards to obesity and I also agree with many of the programs that the State and Federal Government are trying to establish to ensure we are taking the right paths to a healthier lifestyle.

  1. Very interesting post! As for the main themes that are discussed in this post, I couldn't agree more with what they are saying. It is very true think about how much processed foods Americans eat. Their are so many things that our bodies are being denied. For example, on average our body should be getting 18g or more of fiber a day and most people don't intake that amount.

When the individuals were discussing cultural conditions, it made me think of a situation my mother went through about a year and a half ago. My mother had diverticulitis, her colon perforated and she let it go for four days. She had to have five surgeries over the course of two years (a lot of things went wrong in the surgeries). A lot of it had to do with her diet and this being hereditary. However what stuck with me was that her surgeon stated that this was the top surgery he does, and a lot of it had to do with San Antonian's diets. Very scary, because I wouldn't wish what my mother went through on anyone!
